Day 35: Happy Birthday Pookie!

We had a small family party to celebrate L’s 2nd birthday today, an event that was bittersweet for me.  Once they’re past two, it gets awfully hard to pretend they’re still babies, and a loud, chaotic celebration of that fact just seems a little strange in my opinion.  Still, birthdays are a big deal in our family, so we observed the occasion with L’s favorite dinner, a cake, and presents.  My daughter determined days ago that the cake should be banana since bananas are L’s favorite food.  I was amazed at her thoughtfulness and did my best to make a banana cake.  It turned out okay, surprisingly.  The kids loved it, though I think it’d have to taste pretty bad for them to turn down cake.  L received lots of his favorite items for his b-day — cars and trucks.  Loads of them.  Big ones, little ones, ones that turn on and others that go barreling across the kitchen floor with only a slight push.  He was so happy surrounded by all his new trucks.  And now, a few hours later, our sweet little Pookie is officially two.  We love you big guy!
