Earth Day

Earth Day is coming!  And not just any old Earth day; this year marks the 40th anniversary of Earth Day! We celebrated by having a big, messy, chaotic family gardening event. Did I mention it was MESSY? After all the rain we’ve gotten these last few weeks, the dirt was dark and moist, and it stuck to everything. But it was cool and soft, full of worms and possibilities, and we all had a fantastic time. Especially our youngest family member, whom I found getting up close and personal with every bit of our yard that day. By the way, she wasn’t eating dirt. She was actually trying to eat rocks. Which had dirt on them, of course.

My sewing machines and I celebrated by turning these clearance upholstery samples I got for $1 each at Joann’s:

into these:

. . . Grocery bags! I know, I know, I’m late to the reusable-grocery-bag party, but at least I made it eventually, right?

What are you and your family doing to celebrate and preserve the beauty of our planet this week?

We are going to participate in one of the state park’s educational talks or nature walks this weekend to celebrate. Love the bags! Wish I knew how to sew.
